In Karachi, these are scenes from the Sindh Rights March where police used force to deter protesters. Rumaisa Chandio, a law graduate, never imagined she would face such action against her. Rumaisa Javed Chandio is a notable young lawyer, author, researcher, and human rights activist with a strong presence in legal and developmental fields. She holds an LLB degree from the University of London and has previously worked with the Center for Human Rights Education Pakistan and the Center for Peace and Social Society. Rumaisa is the founder of the Youth Empowerment Council, dedicated to advocacy for social justice, youth participation, peacebuilding, and minority rights protection.

the recent protests in Karachi, held on Sunday, a significant number of women were violently targeted by the police. The demonstrators were part of the "Sindh Rawadari March," organized by civil society to protest the increasing religious extremism and the extrajudicial killing of Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar in Mirpurkhas, who had been accused of blasphemy. The peaceful protest outside Karachi Press Club turned chaotic when police resorted to force to disperse the crowd, despite the imposition of Section 144 prohibiting gatherings.

The situation escalated when several women protesters were manhandled and dragged, leading to widespread condemnation. Images of this police brutality spread rapidly on social media, fueling public outrage and drawing criticism from various quarters, including human rights organizations. In response to the backlash, nine police officers, including senior officials, were suspended, and a departmental inquiry was launched to investigate the incident.

Notably, senior members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also criticized the actions of the police, with Senator Sherry Rehman offering a public apology on behalf of the party for the violence inflicted on peaceful demonstrators.
