This is a (video essay) look at the meaning of horror throughout the decades. We do a deep dive (and analysis) into what horror is trying to convey throughout the last six decades. Times have changed so much with technology, lifestyles, political movements. I want to understand exactly how horror plays into showing us the state of the America during each decade. Movies like: Childs Play, Get Out, Hereditary, Exorcist, Halloween, Chopping mall, Pet Semetary, Babadook, etc. We see that the seventies had their suburban horror, the 80’s had scientific advancements that were demonstrated in horror, etc… Even silly horror movies have meaning, and I want to showcase that meaning.
