Higurashi When They Cry is one of the most interesting visual novels / anime / manga ever created. A staple of the 2000s doujinsoft scene and very familiar to any otaku looking for messed up horror content in the early days of YouTube anime piracy. This retrospective is dedicated mainly to looking at its original sound novels written by Ryukishi07, as well as a lot of the supplementary material included in the various console and PC ports. I will also be taking a cursory look at its various anime adaptations but only so far as the sound novels are concerned. Higurashi no naku koro ni is an intriguing mystery that is best enjoyed when you go in completely blind; therefore, I would recommend some familiarity with the original 8 story arcs before you watch this video, either through the sound novels or one of the adaptations (the manga is a much more complete adaptation than the anime). The first four arcs are considered the question arcs--they present the mystery--while the last four are the answer arcs. It's like a book of riddles with the solutions provided at the end.
