Mt. Monju is a sacred mountain founded by Taicho Daishi in 717, about 1,300 years ago, and consists of three peaks (Dai-Monju, Ko-Monju, and Okuno-in). Located in the center of the five peaks of Mt. Echisan, the main hall of Dai-Monju, which is 365 meters above sea level, enshrines Monju Bosatsu (Manjusri), which was created by Taicho Daishi himself, and is worshipped as the Buddha of wisdom. Visitors can enjoy nature in all four seasons, with beautiful scenery including katakuris and autumn leaves, and a rich habitat for valuable animals such as the Japanese serow. It has also been confirmed that a rare species, the Hirohano amana, grows wild here.
There are several well-maintained climbing routes on Mt. Monju, and this time we will take the Nijo Course.
