We go to estate sales and flea markets just hoping we'll find a few things our collectors love at prices we'll all love...but this is ridiculous! We're stopping for bargain shopping at two midwest venues today, which will have the best deals?
Our first bet is on an estate sale in Omaha, Nebraska, where a newer home in a newer neighborhood boasts old and vintage things...at least in their ad! It's only day one, but the morning frenzy means a lot of the cool collectible kitchenware we saw is already gone. No problem! We just go shop the other rooms (a Noritake china set in a clothes closet?) and find deals where others haven't looked, including a good woodworking plane at 1/3 of retail and some elegant glass serving pieces priced less than thrift store tags.
We're hot to find more bargains, so we go to the closest open flea market...which is in another state! Sioux City, Iowa is a place we know for antique malls, but way off in the back part of town is a flea market whose reviews make us think we'll find real vintage at thrift store prices. We were wrong!--actually, several of the items we find (a Fenton swung vase, a Pigeon Forge dogwood creamer, a Southern Railroad tumbler) are priced so impossibly low, the thrift stores would be hard pressed to compete!
There's a lot of fun things to share here besides, from an unusual earlier color in Lenox porcelain (we bought it) to 1950s cameras priced at just $5 and $10 (bought those, too). Cool 1930s toys, a fun Disney xylophone and a set of MCM Blue Heaven dinnerware give us a chance to show off some things we've not seen in prior videos, and we have a great time combing all the spaces hunting for the best stuff we can find in this bargain venue!
In the end, we come out with $300 retail value of fun antique and vintage goodies, at a cost to us of under $100. We'll definitely remember to take a trip down Memory Lane the next time our travels take us to Sioux City!
