Botulinum toxin injection is fast becoming a popular choice of treatment for facial rejuvenation. This is because it offers quick results, with little or no downtime. However, to get the best out of your procedure, please follow these post procedure instructions.
1.Immediately after injection, the dermatologist or their assistant will apply ice to the treated area to avoid any bruising.
2.You may be advised to apply arnica cream or take arnica tablets, which also help in reducing bruising.
3. You may experience mild pain and tenderness and swelling over the injection area, this is normal. This is temporary and resolves in a few hours to a couple of days. You can take a paracetamol tablet for the discomfort. Please speak to your dermatologist for a prescription.
4.Remain upright, and avoid lying down flat for atleast 4 hours after treatment.
5.Avoid massaging the treated area. This may cause the toxin to move to a different area.
6.You can wash your face with a soap free cleanser, and use make up after 12 hours of treatment
7.Avoid strenuous exercise for 72 hours post treatment
8.Bruising is common after any injectable treatment, and it will resolve within a week. Your dermatologist will advise Arnica as well as Serratiopeptidase tablets. You can also use makeup to cover up the bruise.
9.Botulinum toxin starts showing results after 3 days, with full results seen after 2 weeks.
10.If you feel there is any asymmetry in the treated area, wait for at least 1 week, and then seek correction. This can be treated with addition of toxin to the undertreated area.
11.The most common side effect of Botulinum toxin injection are headaches. They are temporary in nature. You can take paracetamol for the headaches. Please speak to your dermatologist for a prescription.
12.If you are prone to fever blisters or cold sores, you may have a reactivation of the condition after fillers. Please let your dermatologist know so they can prescribe oral antiviral tablets for this.
13.Please consult your dermatologist immediately if you notice any unusual symptoms that are not listed above
14.Do make a follow up appointment with your dermatologist after 2 weeks to check the complete result, and to do any additional top up if necessary.
