This topic is loaded with personal opinions, thoughts, experiences and perceptions so this conversation is going to look differently for everyone! But when asked about how student loans have impacted my life and what the financial burden has been like for me, I think having (or not having) kids is a HUGE part of the conversation. Although I'm perfectly happy with how my life has turned out, the long-standing financial strain of student loans always made it feel unsafe to have children. However, there are plenty of women in my life that have chosen to pursue motherhood and I love that! But that also means I know how much parenthood costs too. The cost of childbirth, the cost of adoption, the cost of IVF and other fertility treatments, the cost of the house to shelter children, the costs of their upbringing, it just doesn't end. And if I never felt like I could get up on my own two feet until recently (at 38 years old), then I never felt comfortable to add more feet to the picture.👣
