Naruto (ナルト? romanized as NARUTO ) is a manga serieswritten and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto , later adapted into an anime series . The work tells the story of a teenage orphan Ninja named Naruto Uzumaki , whose parents died in the attack of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox (Kyubi), and who aspires to become Hokage (leader of his village) in order to be recognized as someone important within the village and among his peers.

The series is based on a one-shot that Kishimoto made in August 1996 for Akamaru Jump magazine . 3 As of November 1999, Naruto is published by the publisher Shūeisha in the Japanese weekly magazine Shōnen Jump , 4 since then being compiled in seventy-two volumes . The first season ran for 220 episodes, and a sequel, Naruto: Shippūden , began airing on February 15, 2007 shortly after. In addition, Pierrot has produced nine films based on the series, both the first as well as the second season, as well as several original animations .
