The shrine is believed to be the birthplace of Japan's paper culture, and Kawakamigozen, who is believed to have introduced the washi manufacturing method, is the main deity. The shrine is highly valued for its cultural value due to its historical background that contributed greatly to the development of Echizen washi, and the shrine pavilions are designated as National Important Cultural Properties of Japan, and the complexity of the roof is said to be the largest in Japan.

Iwamoto Shrine
Iwamoto Shrine (Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture) was originally a Shinto shrine for Iwamoto Village as Hakusanmiya Shrine. Until the Edo period (1603-1868), its headquarters was Yakushido, where Yakushi Nyorai and Nikko and Gekko Bosatsu (Sunlight and Moonlight Bodhisattvas) were enshrined. The shrine was renamed Tenmangu Shrine in accordance with the Shinto and Buddhism Separation Order of the Meiji Restoration, and in 1908, other shrines were enshrined together to form Iwamoto Shrine.
