Hanagatami Park is a beautiful park in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, where history and nature are in harmony. It is especially well known for its cherry blossoms in spring, attracting many tourists.
The name Hanagatami Park comes from a story from the Heian period (794-1185).
Legend has it that Emperor Keitai, who went to Echizen as a guardian of the Echizen Province, put flowers in a basket to bid farewell to his lover Teruhinomae, whom he had brought with him from the capital, when he returned home.
Hanagatami Park is also one of Echizen City's most famous cherry blossom viewing spots.
The park is planted with approximately 2,000 Someiyoshino and Yamazakura cherry trees, and every spring the entire park is tinged with a pale pink color.
The best time to view the cherry blossoms is from early to mid-April, when the “Hanakai Park Cherry Blossom Festival” is held, attracting many cherry blossom viewers.
Hanakai Park is a place where visitors can enjoy nature in each of the four seasons.
