It's January, so why not kick the year off with a jolly Holly Holy Day in Nantwich, with some Morris dancing, battle reenactment and a whole load of musket fire and canon fire? I couldn't think of an answer to that question so I went to pay a visit, hoping a reenactment of an important part of the English Civil War - the Battle of Nantwich - would bring to life a period of history I've never really bothered learning about. But also, to see what the battle means to Nantwich today, the town and its people.
This year I'm hoping to visit some of Britain's more unusual annual festivals, to capture some of the sense of fun, pride and craziness that comes with our strangest and most loved traditions.
