-Sightseeing Boat - Sotomo Tour -Fukui Prefecture
Sotomo is a sea-eroded cave located on the north side of the Naigai Peninsula in Obama Bay, Fukui Prefecture, and is a scenic spot where granite was carved by ocean waves. This spectacular landscape was designated as a national scenic beauty in 1934 as a representative place of Wakasa Bay National Park. Since the Middle Ages, Obama has flourished as an important port, and it is believed that traders and sailors on foreign vessels also enjoyed the view of “Sotomo”. The name “Sotomo” was originally used by local fishermen to refer to the outer part of the bay as “Soto-men” or “Back-men,” and was applied to the Chinese characters in the Edo period as a result of the literati's taste.
