A tug is a small but strong boat.
They love to help other ships, vessels and barges.

Can you see big rubber tires placed along the front, or bow of the tugboat.
That’s so they can push other vessels.
Just like a bumper car.
Tugs are very powerful and can push even the largest ships.
Like this huge cruise ship.
Or this big container ship.
The powerful tug is pushing it sideways into it’s birth.
Tugs are also great at directing large vessels into harbour or down narrow canals.
And, they can tow vessels that can’t move.
Like disabled ships, big barges or massive oil platforms.
Did you know?
Tugboats can even break through ice for other ships.
And help with salvage operations.
